Walmart is definitely not the first place I’d think of for cute clothes and accessories created by a designer… but it’s true! I saw Mary Orton post on her Instagram that she was buying some cute dresses because the designer Brandon Maxwell is the creative director for the Walmart brands Free Assembly and Scoop. After being bowled over by this revelation I did a deep dive and found out that he’s been the creative director for over a year. Wow. Who knew? Obviously not this gal. Of course, I decided this needed to be a post because I was able to find about 10 things I really like…

1. Scoop – Women’s Sleeveless Color Block Maxi Dress with Side Cutouts | 2. Scoop – Women’s Smocked Midi Skirt | 3. Free Assembly – Women’s Cropped Boxy T-Shirt with Short Sleeves | 4. Scoop – Women’s Slit Midi Skirt | 5. Scoop – Women’s Rancher Hat | 6. Free Assembly – Women’s Oversized Mock Neck Sweater | 7. Scoop – Women’s Peplum Top with Flutter Sleeves | 8. Free Assembly Women’s 90’s Relaxed Jeans | 9. Scoop Women’s Marietta Wide Leg Cropped Jeans | 10. Scoop – Women’s Square Black Sunglasses

Walmart Dress

Seriously, how can this dress be from Walmart? I have no idea – it’s that cute. But move fast, there’s only a few left! Love the color blocking and how the colors don’t seem like they should go together, but they do. It’s also a good lesson for dressing in general – take chances when mixing colors. You never know what might look amazing.

Bottoms

Since Covid, I have been all about comfort. These two skirts definitely hit that requirement but go even further. The polka dot one has a nice flow to it, and it looks lightweight. The black pencil skirt is just a little different with that slit up the front. I love how that kicks up a plain black skirt. BRB going to add that one to my cart.

I know jeans don’t exactly match my MO for comfy clothes, but I’m jonesing for some new ones. I’ve been seeing a lot of posts on Instagram and in the news that skinny jeans are out. This is sad for me because all my jeans are skinny ones. I don’t want to spend a ton of money on a new trend, like these 90’s light wash one on the left or the wide leg ones on the left. And since it’s Walmart, you can’t go wrong with the prices! The wide leg ones are a total steal at $13! But it also means there are few sizes left – sorry about that!

Tops

I didn’t realize when I was choosing shirts I chose two in yellow. I guess it makes sense, yellow is a happy color to me, and since I’m currently laid up with a broken ankle, I want all happiness all the time. Tee hee hee. Now, for basics, the $10 boxy T-shirt is a great buy. I would buy one first to see if you like the fit, because sometimes boxy fits can be weird, and then if you like it, go back for different colors! I think I used to have a shirt exactly like the flutter sleeve one and loved it – which is probably why I included it in this Walmart round-up.

Some of you might be screaming – it’s too soon to think about sweaters – while the fall aficionado’s are cheering. Whatever camp you might fall into, this sweater is cute. I love that it’s a mock neck because you don’t have to worry about choking. (IYKYK) The oversized look is cool, but it also gives the illusion of a waist with the parallel lines at the bottom of the sweater. Could you imagine how cool this would be with the pencil skirt from above and some rocking boots (or similar since these look sold out)?

Accessories

If you’ve been following along for a while, you’ll know that I’m sort of obsessed with hats. I’ve been eyeing this rancher hat for a while, but I’m not up to spending that amount of money, so this hat from Walmart is perfect!

The sunglasses remind me of these Karen Walker ones, so I’m digging them too. At $27 you can get two in case you lose or break a pair!

So, what do you all think? Are you as surprised as I am that Brandon Maxwell is not only working with Walmart, but turning out some awesome products at amazing price points? This isn’t a Walmart sponsored post I’m just that surprised and wanted to share it with you all. Of course, if you do click or buy something I do get a little bit of money since these are affiliate links.

  • I love the sweater as I am always cold and use sweaters all year long. The hat is really cool especially for people who look great in hats. I also loved the polka dot skirt.
