Spring is the strangest season; it’s still cold, but it’s also warming up. It’s not hot enough for a light jacket, but it’s too hot for a heavy down one. What’s a gal to do? I rely on dresses with tights and layers. Remember a while ago I did a post about layers? It still rings true during Spring as well as Fall. Only now the colors are a little more fun!
The official first day of spring this year is March 20, 2018. Tuesday. The forecast is for a high of 40 degrees fahrenheit. Still pretty cold to me! However, I’m still going to embrace the start by showing off these cute dresses.
1. Revolve – LIONESS Caliente Ruffle Dress | 2. Express – Petite Floral Ruffle Wrap Cami Dress |
3. Revolve – House of Harlow 1960 x REVOLVE Ines Dress | 4. ASOS – ASOS DESIGN Petite maxi dress with racer back and hi lo pep hem | 5. Romwe – Floral Print Layered A Line Dress With Belt |
6. 1. State – Wide Strap V Neck Shift Dress
As you can see, I chose dresses that are bright and cheery. I know spring is usually associated with pastels, but I wasn’t feeling them this year. I love the patterns and brightness of these. I also seem to be quite into yellows and reds. I’ve never been a huge fan of patterns aside from polkadots (heeey number 1!) but these feel fun to me. Also, it’s time for me to break out of my rut and start adding different prints to my wardrobe.
Number 1 above seems different from the rest with the subdued color, but I couldn’t help myself from putting it in here because it reminds me of the dress Julia Roberts wore in Pretty Woman. (I’ll wait while you check this out.)
My favorite color is red. I don’t have a ton of red in my closet, oddly. Numbers 2 and 5 would help me in that department. I love the prints on both. Number 2 would be adorable with a biker jacket and black moto boots because it would toughen up the girly dress. I mean, it has a ruffle. I’ve never been a huge fan of ruffles, but I’m loving it here. I’d add cowboy boots to Number 5. I don’t have any, but who’s up for a shopping trip? 😉
Numbers 3, 4, and 6 are yellow! There’s nothing happier than a yellow dress. It’s a color I think looks great on most skin tones, depending on the tone of the yellow. For example, I think number 6 would definitely have to be tried on to see what it looks like against my skin tone since it has a bit of a green undertone.
As for layering, I’d throw a nice blazer over the dresses, maybe one in white or a black one. The juxtaposition of the yellow and black is fun. It does remind one of a bumblebee, but when done right, i.e.; throwing on a black blazer and stiletto heels, no one’s gonna think of a bumblebee.
