It’s time for coats here in NYC and I’m ready. I thought I didn’t have an obsession with coats like my sister and Aunt. I was completely wrong. In finding some for my photo shoot today, I realized I have a ton. And yet, I still drool over them every time I see them in the stores. It’s almost winter 2018 so I should really update to at least one new coat… so here are my choices for my top ten coats I’m crushing on.
I am in love with this trench coat, unfortunately, so is everyone else. It’s no longer even on the Nordstrom website. We bought it during the anniversary sale. Note to everyone – even if you’re not cold, check out the coats that are on sale. They definitely come in handy when the weather turns. I’ve lived in this all of October.

As you can see, I’ve included a number of coats ranging from a trench, wool coats, and puffers that way depending on the weather in your town, you can rest assured there’s a coat for you. Now, let’s start with the puffers.
Puffer Coats
Numbers 1, 5, and 8 are the puffer coats. I wear these when the weather drops below 30 degrees fahrenheit. Mine (above) is The North Face from the outlet. If you’re lucky enough to live by an outlet that has this store, run to it. I will say the puffers from The North Face run really small. I am wearing an extra-large above. This one, number 5, looks even better than mine since it is filled with fibers that mimic down clusters, trapping heat within small air pockets to retain warmth. The cheapest puffer is the JC Penney one (1). I once had a coat from there that was wonderful. Just because it’s a store that most people turn up their nose at doesn’t mean you can’t find some gems every so often. The last coat, number 8, is from LL Bean. That store is another go-to for warm coats. This one is on the pricey side, but it could be worn for years. It reminds me of the Canada Goose ones. I didn’t include them on here because everyone knows about them.
Wool Coats
The wool ones include numbers 2, 3, 6, 7, and 10. While I usually wear my puffer every day in the winter, a wool coat is a nice change and makes an outfit look a little more high-class. The fit and flare coat (2) is a great addition to any wardrobe because it makes legs look longer. It also looks great flaring out over jeans. Number 3, the oversized blazer-type coat, is one that would be great if you live in California or Arizona – a place that doesn’t get down into the 30s or less. This one is just a cool, menswear inspired look. I would love to see this with rolled-up jeans and a cool oxford. Number 6 is a real splurge at $875. If you’d like a similar look at a lower price, number 7 is your choice. I like how these two coats have ties around the waist. It will make anything look classy. Last is number 10, the asymmetrical zip one. The color along with the zip makes this coat original. I haven’t seen many people wearing one like this. It also feels like another coat that would be best in a climate that doesn’t get to freezing temps.
Fun Coats
I included two coats that I consider fun and different; numbers 4 and 9. The trench is a great addition to any wardrobe. This one might only be good for this season, but the sleeves are so much fun. It will make people do a double take as they try to figure out if you’re wearing a trench vest. I love how different it is. If you don’t know me by now, you’ll find out that I love being a little different. The other coat is an animal print one, number 4. This is a moto cut, which also makes it different from the other animal print ones. It might be a little cooler than the one I’m wearing above. It will hit at the waist which will look great with jeans or black pants.
That ends my top picks for coats. What do you guys think? Are you a coat hoarder as well? Are there any on here you would get, or is there something I missed? Let me know!
