Desigual-Title

Of all the shows at New York Fashion Week, one stands out for how different it was; Desigual.  I’d been interested in seeing how the Spring 2018 line would look under their newest artistic director, Jean-Paul Goude.  We all know him as the dude behind the Kim Kardashian pics that “broke the internet” from 2014.  He’s not a fashion designer; he’s a photographer, illustrator, filmmaker, advertising genius… so how well did he do with his first fashion collection?

I think it was refreshingly surprising.  After watching clips from the runway show itself, he certainly surprised me.

It was more an artistic performance than the standard fashion show (i.e., expressionless runway models).  This was visual art come to life, with dancers playing the parts of models, gyrating their way down the runway, with the clothes adding a touch of whimsy to the entire spectacle.

Now, you might be thinking that’s all well and cool, but are these styles wearable?  Surprisingly, yes.

Below I take my fave pieces from the Desigual SS 2018 line and explain how I would wear them.  Sometimes it is difficult to imagine what comes down the runway as every day street wear, but when you break the pieces down by themselves and pair them with basics, they become the centerpiece of your outfits.  I’ve always thought it was important to have a statement piece to my everyday look.  Otherwise a t-shirt and jeans can get rather boring.

My fave pick is the floral black dress with bell sleeves.  I love how its styled on Desigual’s website, with Chelsea boots, but for those of us with a day job not in fashion, I could also see it with a cool pair of block heel pumps.  It can transition well into fall with tights and knee-high boots (like my Target ones, pictured below), or with a collared white shirt underneath.

My other favorite piece has to be the black jacket covered in roses.  It is an odd piece for me to like because usually I do not go for girly, floral vibes, but I love the mix of tough leather with embroidered flowers, sort of echoing Gucci.  I might go so far as to pair it with the black skirt (the one with the blue jacket) and some Doc Marten’s for a tough girl look.  With the sunnies of course – Desigual, where can I buy them?  Hook me up!  Of course, for the less bold, the jacket, a white tee, and ripped jeans would be just the ticket.

What do you guys think?  Would you wear any of these items?  Are you as surprised as I am with the new clothes at Desigual?  Take a look at the runway show, it’s definitely one of the coolest I’ve seen in a while.  Would you agree?
