I love me a good sequin skirt… but the question arises; what top do I wear with it?  That question strikes fear in the hearts of many women.  You don’t have to wonder any longer; I have some ideas…

H&M – Glittery Skirt
1. Gap – Split-Back Short Sleeve Shirt in Poplin | 2. H&M – V-neck Blouse | 3. Gap – Eyelet Ruffle Peplum Top | 4. H&M – Blouse with Flounced Sleeves | 5. H&M – Fine-knit Sweater | 6. H&M – Knit Chenille Sweater

For a skirt like this, one can actually wear almost anything since it is black.  Yes, it’s sequiny – or glittery – however you want to call it, but the bottom line is that it’s black.  Black matches a lot.

One of the ways to make this work is to tuck the shirt in, so it creates a bit of an hourglass shape.  You can even add a belt.  The three choice I have for shirts that need to be tucked in are numbers 1, 2, and 4.  The plain white shirt (1) would help dress the skirt down.  If worn with white sneakers, Cons or Golden Goose ones, it creates a fun, sporty look.  The apricot shirt (2) elevates the skirt to work appropriate.  Add some pumps (Sam Edelman are my fave!) and voilà!  Instant work outfit with a skirt usually known for being worn only at holidays.  The flouncy polka dot blouse (4) is a great way to mimic the pattern of the sequins on the skirt.  Throwing on a biker jacket gives it a downtown cool vibe.

Here’s a cool idea – add a peplum top (3) that hits right at the top of the skirt.  It brings a fun, flirty element to the ensemble.

Even though we’re heading into summer, some people freeze in their office even in the hot, humid, temps.  (Not me of course, I speak of my sister and Mom!)  The last two sweater picks are for them.

The first sweater (5) is reminiscent of the sweater I wore with my black skirt above.  It adds a French flair to the outfit.  This would look best tucked in with a black belt.  Black pumps make it look professional.

The last sweater (6) creates a look that is sporty and chill.  Throw the big orange sweater over the skirt and let it hang.  In the winter, some great black knee-high boots would be a great look.  In the summer, some slides are exactly what the outfit needs.

These ideas can be used for a sequin skirt or any skirt.  If it makes it easier to remember, start with the color.  What matches the color?  This one was easy – as I stated above – a multitude of colors can be worn with black.  If you have a red skirt, you’re going to have a harder time finding a shirt to pair with it.  When in doubt, remember that white and black match nearly everything!  What do you all think?  Has this been helpful?  Are you going to try any of these ideas?  What else would you like to see tips on?  Let us know in the comments below!
