This time of year always makes me think of travel, and travel makes me think of hotels. Why am I thinking about this right now?  Could be because it’s starting to get warmer out, it’s almost the end of the school year, vacations are almost here… All these things have made me start jonesing for a trip of my own — but this year I already went to Hawaii!  What’s a gal to do when she’s been on vacation already?  Well, I’m glad you asked!  I always think it’s fun to create a list of places I’d love to stay one day.  Let’s get searching, shall we?

Hotel bucket list

5.  Palacio de Sal – Bolivia
Have you ever stayed in a salt block?  Me either!  I’m not entirely sure I’d like to check out Bolivia, but I definitely want to check out this hotel.  Even the standard room looks amazing!   It is pretty high above sea level, so that’s one thing to watch out for, but I’m pretty sure I could handle it.  It’s not like we’re hiking Mt. Everest!

4.  Dalhousie Castle – Edinburgh, Scotland
I’ve always been a huge anglophile and thought castles are the coolest things.  Of course, I’ve heard they’re drafty and cold.  I’d like to be able to decide for myself if that’s true or not and staying in a castle hotel is just the ticket.  Plus, could you imagine dressing up and pretending you’re a queen for the night?  (Just not Queen Anne Boleyn, things didn’t work out so well for her, or Queen Kathryn Howard.)  Even though this one I picked isn’t in England, I’d rather Scotland anyway.  I’ve been there before and let me tell you, it’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve been so far.  The grass is so lush and green; I’ve never seen anything like it.

3.  Chateau dans les Arbres – France
Treehouses.  They’re not just for kids anymore.  Oh heck no.  Have you seen that show on Animal Planet, Treehouse Masters?  I’m not a huge fan, but I’ve caught some episodes.  Not only are some people living in them, but there are hotels around the world that offer you the opportunity to stay there.  Something I definitely want to do.  It looks so peaceful up there.  Almost like you’re a bird.  This treehouse hotel looks like the best of them all.  First, it’s in France, and secondly, it looks like they take great care of you from these pictures.  It would also be a great place to honeymoon.  I hear summer’s a great time for weddings, too.  (Wink wink!)
Chateau dans les Arbres2.  The Manta Resort – Pemba, Africa
Underwater room.  Seriously.  You can sleep with the fishes — and not in the mobster way.  There are three levels; the top for sunbathing or star gazing, the middle one has the bathroom, and the bottom level is underwater.  They even have underwater spotlights to illuminate the fish and bring them closer.  I love that they’ve given some of the fish names.  How adorable is that?
The Manta Resort1.  Giraffe Manor – Nairobi, Kenya
Another one in Africa.  I didn’t think I wanted to visit Africa ever, but now I realize that two of the top hotels I want to visit are there.  Will have to update my top countries to visit, because look at this one.  You’re at a hotel that openly welcomes GIRAFFES!!!  Like real live ones that just roam around the grounds of the hotel.  I’ve only seen a giraffe in the zoo — which I’m not a huge fan of, but without them would I have ever seen one?  Not everyone gets the chance to visit where they roam in the wild.  That’s why this is my number one pick.  I’d love to stay at this hotel because the rooms look gorgeous, the grounds amazing, and the giraffes!  I’d also like to go on a safari and this seems like a great place to do so.
Giraffe ManorOf course these are my top five right now.  I have to admit that they do change.  When I see new hotels, I have to update my list!  Aren’t you guys like that, too?  What are you faves out of these?  What are your top hotels that you would love to stay in one day?  Let me know in the comments!  I’ll probably have to add them to my list!
