It’s time to transition your cute spring dresses to winter appropriate ones. It’s not as hard as you think it will be and I’m here to show you how to do it.
Vici – Harvard Pocketed Drape Coatigan
1. Asos – Stradivarius edge to edge turn up sleeve blazer | 2. Amazon – Liny Xin Women’s Cashmere Loose Casual Long Sleeve Open Front Oversized Cardigan Sweater | 3. Aerie – Easy Cardigan | 4. Wolford – Naked 8 Tights | 5. Piper & Scoot – The Cozy Fur Zip Up Jacket In Natural |
6. Loft – Elbow Patch Modern Blazer | 7. ModCloth – Glitz My Pleasure Tights | 8. ModCloth – Unexpected Speckles Knit Tights | 9. ModCloth – Charter School Cashmere Pullover
Usually when I transition a floral spring dress like this one, I’d try to stay within its existing color palette rather than just throwing a black cardigan over it. I like the way this “coatigan” looks with the floral dress above. Since the dress is white with flowers on it, I want to stay with a white look on top otherwise it’ll head into a severe look which is something I don’t want with a dress like this.
Texture is also a big thing with a spring dress. It’s good to pair a dress like this with a nubby cardigan that’s soft and has an interesting design on it. That way you’re also playing with patterns: the pattern on the dress and the pattern on the sweater – that’s a cool way to tie things together.
I would also add tights – but again here I wouldn’t go for a boring old pair of black ones. I like the three I’ve chosen here, mainly from ModCloth – who knew that place had such cute tights? I like that they are interesting. The glitz my pleasure tights (7) are paired above with the coatigan and they make the outfit look fun while being warm. If you want to forgo another pattern, a plain pair of sheer black stockings will look nice with this because it’s not as stark as opaque black.
As for shoes, which I don’t have any examples of in the above group, I would wear brown boots with this ensemble, cowboy boots since they’re ‘in’ now, or a block heel in ivory or flax. The cowboy boots with the coatigan is a very boho look that can also be comfy.
What do you guys think? How do you transition your favorite spring/summer clothes to make them winter worthy? Let me know in the comments below!
Who is Christy??!?!?
Are you actually wearing that sweater?
Love the sweaters and the fact that they are soft. Th tights are fun tights and not just plain boring tights.
I love soft sweaters, it’s my thing! And yeah, Christy, I’m all about the fun tights. 😉
